today was the "dignity march", i wanted to see the turnout so the boys and i headed down. i was moved (not literally, as state street was closed), it was incredible to see so many people united for one cause. i usually don't like to see the american flag displayed everywhere, i.e. bumpers, lifted truck windows, cheap walmart shirts. i feel that it lessens the meaning. however, today was different, i welcomed the flags displayed and white freedom shirts worn. i haven't seen the news or read anything on it yet, but it has to be the largest march we've had here, with at least 10,000 people.simply, amazing.

D.C. was crazy yesterday as well. Thiuis city is known for thye large black population but there is obviously a large hispasnic population as well. The metro was overwhelmed. Trains that usually come every 2 minutes were coming every 20-45 minutes. Then they were so full of peoploe that the doors couldn't close. Once you got on the train you became very good, almost intimate friends with the three or four people closest to you.
Spanish was being spoken everywhere by brown people with American flags. The white business suit-wearing government-type commuters had a dazed shell shocked look to them. It was great! I think that a new minority group needs to have a protest every month just to keep the conservative religious right GOP pricks on their toes. For example, if the gay community could threaten to add an hour to everyone's commute on a regular basis I bet that they would have full and equal rights in no time.
